Hounslow

A commercial town, Hounslow (/ˈhaʊnzloʊ/) is a district in west London, 11.1 miles (17.9 km) west-southwest of Charing Cross. With parts in the Ealing, Richmond upon Thames, and Hillingdon London Boroughs, part of Middlesex, since 1965 Hounslow has been part of the Hounslow London Borough.

Meaning "a man named or nicknamed Hound's mound" or "the dog's mound", the name Hounslow is spelt in old records as 'Hundeslow' and pointing to Anglo-Saxon Hundes hlāw. Hounslow Heath Aerodrome, from 1910 to 1920, was an airfield of grass. Maria Whittaker was born in Hounslow.

With Krasnodar Krai's Leningradsky District, Russia, the Hounslow London Borough has a district agreement with its sister. With a shopping centre, called the Blenheim Centre, Hounslow has a number of restaurants, caf s and businesses, many of which are associated with product assembly, marketing, telecommunications.

Hounslow station and Hounslow Loop Line of South Western Railway connect it to Central London. A public open space, Hounslow Heath is a nature reserve to the west of Hounslow, a London borough.

Focused on targeting the wealthy and noble, Hounslow Heath was known for the extremely high numbers of highway robberies in the area. In Dockwell Lane branded as Hounslow Speedway, dated 7 July 1935 a programme that was printed suggests that there may have been speedway racing of motor cycles.

In Hounslow are the Irish Guards GAA club. Founder of the REED agency, Sir Alec Reed was born in Hounslow. Cyril Vosper (1935-2004) was born in Hounslow.
